Day 10 | Measuring Friendships

The past three days have been pretty tiring as everyone was scrambling high, low and all about, trying to record precise measurements of the house we all are surveying. It felt like a blink of an eye, and today is our third and final day making measurements at the Batik Handel traditional house HM. Moeh. As many of us remained in the Pengulon to begin our measured drawings, the atmosphere on-site was not as cheerful as it was on the first day of our survey. Despite that, it was also interesting to observe people scurrying to and fro the house to measure either earlier missed elements or re-check their measurements, and I was not spared that trouble as well.

As the scorching hot sun relentlessly harrowed the land beneath, many of us got a tad too restless and tired. It was heart-warming to see our peers encouraging one another, regardless of nationality and school. Some bought fruit juice, some ordered drinks from the mall, while others talk in an attempt to disrupt the monotony of the mundane drafting work. I guess we all have been assimilated into the individual teams and also as a big group together. Everyone was crossing over from one team to another to coordinate the drawings and measurements, pausing for a short while to strike short and meaningful conversations along the way. It was a joy to see everyone working so well with one another and creating such an enjoyable ambience to work in despite their language and cultural barriers.

As we walked our usual path into the orange-tinted sunset, I could not help but think about the numbered days that we have together. We all became friends in a short time, and I sincerely hope that this will last a lifetime, even as we return to our respective country in less than two weeks’ time.
